New Home

After a homerun season in 2004, the Charleston Alley Cats will say goodbye to Watt Powell Park and make plans to usher in the 2005 season with a new home, new team affiliation and new team name. The Charleston Alley Cats recently announced that it changed its affiliation from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Milwaukee Brewers. The team name will also be changed and an announcement is expected sometime in early November 2004.   The team name will also be changed and an announcement is expected sometime in early November 2004. More than $23 million is going into a brand new ballpark in downtown Charleston. Being built at Morris, Lewis Smith & Brooks Streets, the new ballpark will feature 4,500 fixed seats, recessed playing field, batting cages and more. You can watch all the progress live!


Groundbreaking
Plans were unveiled earlier in the year, and a groundbreaking ceremony was held on March 18, 2004 at the site.  An estimated crowd of about 300-400 attended the ceremony with city officials, dignitaries, team management and area residents joining together to celebrate the official beginning of the long-awaited project.
