CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) Whether on the sand or in the water, athletes are facing off in the capitol city.
SportsFEST kicked off Friday in Charleston.
Magic Island is playing host to the beach volleyball and wrestling competitions.
At Haddad River Front Park, there will be water cross races and a firefighter combat challenge.
In its second year, SportsFEST is expected to attract more than 7,000 people and bring in more than $1 million.
The Charleston Convention and Visitor's Bureau appreciates the added tourism just as much as the athletes enjoy the chance to compete.
"Charleston is giving back to us," said Jason Wilson of North Carolina. "To have the governor come down and actually get to talk to him, it's a really cool opportunity for us as athletes to come here and compete."
