City Signage
Charleston has embarked on an exciting new project that will help out of town guests find their way around with ease. All along main routes, visitors will see large colorful signs that point the way. So, if you're looking for downtown, or perhaps the Charleston Town Center Mall or visitor information, there will be signs all over town to point you in the right direction. The signs are color coded by specific areas of town in conjunction with a new city map that will also reflect the same color coding. The design will make navigating through the area much easier.
Right now, there are about twenty signs posted, but that number will swell to more than 200 before th
e project is completed in the next few months. Smaller signs are positioned at each destination, such as parking, just so you can be sure.
The collaboration among the City of Charleston, City of South Charleston, Charleston Renaissance, Charleston Urban Renewal Authority, Legislative Budget Digest, the Kanawha County Commission, Charleston Beautification Committee, the Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau and others working together made this $55,000 project possible. After more than eight years of development, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in September to unveil some of the signs.
